For years, no one has paid much attention to replacing hormones that generally make us feel good. Cortisol, Insulin, and Thyroid, however, claim attention immediately because the decline in the levels of these hormones cause noticeable physical problems, such as Addison’s disease, diabetes and cardiac and brain dysfunction.
The subtle changes brought about by depletion of other important hormones can make the difference in living the best possible quality of life, as opposed to simply “getting through the day” or hoping for a few good days now and then. The failure, however, to replace those hormones – growth hormones (hGH), estrogen, testosterone, DHEA and adequate thyroid replacement – leads to a less acute but just as serious decline of health into chronic illness, decline of immune function and increased susceptibility to disease, weakening physical and sexual abilities, depression, decreasing mental abilities and often dementia, along with premature disability and perhaps an early demise. It’s not your age. It’s your hormone deficiencies that often keep you from maintaining the quality of life and level of performance of which you are capable.
But today, something can certainly be done about the loss of these hormones and the symptoms resulting from their deficiency. That solution is to replace those hormones and bring them back up to a healthy level, which then promotes a feeling of well being, increased energy, and gives you a better, more vigorous, youthful outlook on life. Hormone replacement can delay or prevent many of the chronic illnesses and conditions our society tends to suggest usually accompany “getting old” or “normal aging”.
A person’s efforts to work out and become fit may be sabotaged by deficient hormone levels.
Hormone replacement therapy, however, has been shown to reduce body fat and increase lean muscle when combined with proper nutrition and exercise. HRT has also been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, among many other health benefits.
Maintaining optimal hormone levels is also important in preserving the highest level of your brain function. New research now correlates falling testosterone levels in both men and women with increasing dementia. Men and women require different levels of testosterone to maintain optimal health, but in both genders there are thousands of testosterone receptor sites in the brain, indicating that the brain needs the presence of adequate levels of testosterone for proper operation. The same requirement exists for all the other hormones – growth hormone, thyroid, and estrogen.
We recommend the use of natural bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Synthetic hormones may produce an inflammatory response, which may lead to other problems. Natural bioidentical hormones match the hormones produced by your body. They are compounded from natural sources and have exactly the same molecular structure as the hormones they will replace.
Neurology and Age Management present the ideal compliment of specialties. For over thirty years, Dr. Rex Anderson, founder and director of the NeuroMedical Institute for Age Management, has practiced Neurology, and for more than twelve years he has studied and explored the increasingly obvious benefits of natural bioidentical hormone replacement. I have worked with Dr. Anderson for twenty-five years, and nothing is more discouraging than seeing a patient with a wonderful mind but a deteriorating physical condition, or one with a healthy body but a mind that is progressively deteriorating.
Our goal is to help you live feeling your best at every stage of your life, and that means looking closely at the hormones that have largely been neglected. It is not a coincidence that we hear the same story from so many people. That story can be rewritten. Talk with us about what can be done. We can help, and offer several different types of medically supervised, evidenced-based natural bioidentical hormone replacement programs.
